Poverty Simulation – Live a Month in Poverty in a Few Hours

March 30, 2017 @ 1:00 pm - 4:00 pm

Free

The Poverty Simulation is a chance for people to spend a few minutes walking in the shoes of a low-income family.

How it works: The simulation is conducted in a large room and intended to represent a month in the life of a family living in poverty. At the site, you will receive an identity and family profile. Your “home,” and the “homes” of other participants, are chairs in the center of the room. Using your family profile, you will work to get the services you need — banks, schools, grocery stores — at tables that line the perimeter of the room. Along the way, you will experience many of the same challenges that real low-income families may encounter.

Afterward, you and the other participants will gather for a debriefing to share your insights. The Poverty Simulation Event is a very special kind of awakening, giving you a unique insight into the many challenges facing poor families.
